Booking, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Effective: 2026-05-27 · Last reviewed: 2026-05-27 · 3914 Washington Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111

The short version: When you book a tattoo with us, you pay a deposit to hold your slot. The deposit is non-refundable, but transferable if you reschedule with at least 48 hours notice. If you cancel inside 48 hours, no-show, or arrive intoxicated and we have to refuse, the deposit is forfeit. Tips are optional, go 100% to the artist, and are not refundable. We refund the actual session balance only in limited cases described below.

1. Deposits

How they work

To confirm a booking, we require a deposit at the time you submit your appointment request. The deposit amount is set by your individual artist on a per-appointment-type basis (consultation, half-day, full-day, etc.) and is shown on the booking page before you pay.

Your deposit is charged via Stripe directly to your artist's connected account. We do not see or store your card number.

What the deposit covers

The deposit is applied to your final session balance at the time of the appointment. It does not represent a separate fee — if your session totals $600 and you paid a $100 deposit, you owe $500 at the session.

Deposits are non-refundable

By paying a deposit, you acknowledge that the deposit secures the artist's time and is not refundable under normal circumstances. The deposit covers the lost-opportunity cost when an appointment is held for you and another client cannot be booked into that slot.

When deposits are refundable (limited cases)

We will return your deposit in the following narrow circumstances:

  • We cancel your appointment for reasons outside your control (artist illness, shop closure, equipment failure that we cannot remedy within 7 days)
  • Your artist leaves the shop before your appointment and no acceptable replacement can be arranged
  • A duplicate or accidental charge occurs

In all other cases, the deposit is forfeit per the cancellation and no-show rules below.

2. Cancellation and rescheduling

48-hour rule

To reschedule your appointment without forfeiting your deposit, you must contact us at least 48 hours before your scheduled time. Earlier is better. To reschedule, email admin@dawnbringertattoo.com or contact your artist directly.

Cancellations or reschedules with at least 48 hours notice will transfer your deposit to a new appointment slot, scheduled at our mutual convenience within 90 days of the original date.

Inside 48 hours

If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment for any reason, the deposit is forfeit. A new deposit will be required to rebook.

We make limited exceptions for documented medical emergencies, death in the immediate family, and severe weather events that close roads in the metro area. Exceptions are at the discretion of the shop and your artist.

Reschedule limit

A single deposit may be transferred to a new appointment once without an additional deposit. A second reschedule will require a fresh deposit.

3. No-show policy

If you do not arrive within 30 minutes of your scheduled appointment time and have not contacted your artist, you are considered a no-show.

No-show consequences:

  • The deposit is forfeit
  • Future bookings with Dawnbringer may require a larger deposit (artist's discretion)
  • Repeat no-shows may result in being declined for future bookings

If you are running late, call or text your artist as soon as you know. We will hold your slot whenever possible.

4. Refusal of service

We will refuse to begin or continue a tattoo session if:

  • You arrive intoxicated, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or otherwise unable to give informed consent (Missouri 20 CSR 2267-5.020 requires sobriety at procedure)
  • You cannot present valid government-issued photo ID confirming you are 18 or older (Kansas City Ordinance Sec. 50-239)
  • You answer "yes" to a consent-form question that requires medical clearance, and that clearance has not been obtained
  • The requested tattoo violates our shop's content standards (hate symbols, gang affiliations, content we deem unethical) — at the artist's sole discretion
  • Any other safety concern arises before or during the session

If we refuse service for any of the above reasons, the deposit is forfeit.

5. The session itself

Payment of the balance

The remaining session balance (total minus deposit) is due at the time of the session. We accept the same payment methods as the deposit, processed through Stripe.

Multi-session work

For tattoos requiring multiple sessions, you may need to pay a deposit for each session, or pay a larger initial deposit applied across sessions. Your artist confirms the structure at consultation.

Session length

If the session takes longer than the booked time slot due to client-side factors (excessive breaks, additional design changes mid-session, etc.), the artist may need to schedule a continuation session. Additional sessions are billed at the artist's standard rate.

6. Completed work — no refunds

Once a tattoo procedure has begun, the work is non-refundable. Tattoos are permanent, custom, and cannot be returned. If you have concerns about the work, contact your artist directly — most issues can be addressed with a touch-up session at no charge or reduced cost.

If you have a complaint about an artist's professional conduct or technical quality, you may contact:

  • Dawnbringer shop manager at admin@dawnbringertattoo.com

7. Tipping

Tipping is optional. There is no required gratuity at Dawnbringer. The price quoted at booking and on your invoice is the complete charge for the work.

100% goes to the artist. Dawnbringer takes no portion of tips. Every dollar you tip goes directly to your individual artist.

Tips are not refundable. Once a tip has been paid via the website or Stripe, it is not refundable. The transaction settles to the artist's account immediately.

8. Refund process (when one applies)

Refunds in the narrow cases described above are processed by:

  1. Email admin@dawnbringertattoo.com describing the situation
  2. We review and confirm eligibility within 7 business days
  3. If approved, the refund is issued to the original payment method
  4. Credit/Debit returns 5–10 business days after processed, depending on your bank

9. Chargebacks and disputes

Filing a chargeback through your bank is not an alternative to contacting us. Please contact us first, at admin@dawnbringertattoo.com, before disputing a charge. Most issues can be resolved directly and faster than the bank chargeback process.

Filing a chargeback after services have been rendered, when no refund is owed under this policy, is considered a breach of these terms. We retain the right to respond to the chargeback with full documentation (consent form, photos, timestamps, the IP address you submitted from), decline future bookings from that account, and pursue collection of any amount the bank reverses incorrectly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The version in effect at the time of your booking governs your booking.

11. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Missouri. Any dispute is venued in the courts of Jackson County, Missouri.
